Tips For Remodeling Your Foyer Or Entryway

In some homes, the foyer or entryway seems like it was an oversight. It may lack its own character. It may be a space where you toss your shoes and not much else. This can all change if you remodel your foyer or entryway in a careful and precise way. Here are some tips and ideas to get you started.

Use Strong, Waterproof Flooring

In an entryway, the floor is going to get wet. You don't want to have to rush to wipe up every puddle from a wet boot. You also don't want your floor to be stained or warped in a few short months. The best flooring options for an entryway tend to be stone tile, vinyl sheeting, and laminate flooring. Vinyl sheeting is the cheapest option, but not everyone likes its modern, shiny look. Stone tile is time-consuming to install and can be expensive, but lasts virtually forever. Laminate is middle of the road when it comes to cost and durability.

Build In Some Storage

Your entryway will look a lot tidier if you have dedicated spaces to store your extra shoes, coats, umbrellas, and so forth. Consider having a chest or bench built against one wall. You could include a padded seat cover so you can sit on the bench when putting your shoes on. Hooks are another good storage element, particularly for hanging coats, hats, and umbrellas.

Include Lots of Lighting

You want your entryway to be well-lit. This way, you can see what you're doing when you come in later at night. You will also have an easier time finding your things in the morning. In addition to an overhead light, consider adding a sconce or two to the walls for some extra brightness.

Consider a New Front Door

If you're remodeling the entryway, consider replacing your front door at the same time. This way, you can choose a door that coordinates with the style and color scheme of your new entryway. You can also replace the door frame and add some insulation in that area, which will make the whole entryway warmer in the winter and also more energy efficient.

Remodeling an old foyer or entryway is worth it. After all, this is the first place that you and your guests see when entering your home, and it deserves to make a good impression. Take the ideas above to heart, and go from there.
